GREEK CULTURE

INTRODUCTION


JUSTIFICATION

Because culture is a very broad and interesting because is it in this philosophy flourished and from there emerged some giving more importance to science of mathematics hence de reason for the iinvestigation .


OBJECTIVE GENERAL

Inquire about the past of greece to leam about the origin of philosophy, mathematics, the olympics etc. And also at the same time  to know why Greece today.

Greek or Hellenic culture

The origins of Greek civilization would be on the island of Crete, southeast of the Peloponnese, from 2100 to. c. approximately

GODS

The Greeks believed that the gods had chosen Mount Olympus (a region of Greece called Thessaly) as their residence. On Olympus formed an organized society in terms of power.

ZEUS
He is the god of heaven, in Greek mythology, is the greatest god of the Olympian. Governs establishing order, justice and destiny of the universe. Homer says it was in Ida, and was the youngest son of the Titan Cronus and titánida Rhea and brother of the deities: Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter and Hera.


Hera
Queen of the gods, the daughter of the Titans Cronus and Rhea, sister and wife of Zeus. The goddess of marriage and protector of married women, as was the lawful wife of Zeus, that the naturally became the protector of married women. She is portrayed as jealous, violent and vengeful. She was the mother of Ares, god of war, Hephaestus, god of fire, of Hebe, goddess of youth, and Ilithyia, goddess of childbirth. Hera is often identified with the Roman goddess Juno.



Athena

Goddess of Wisdom, is the inventor of the flute, the trumpet, the plow, the yoke for oxen, the car, the boat and the crock pot cooking. She also taught mortals numbers and instructed to the women in the kitchen the fabric and yarn. She is the goddess who was born as an adult, the result of the union of Zeus and Metis, the goddess of wisdom. She was the favorite daughter of Zeus. Aphrodite
Goddess of love and beauty. The Greek goddess of love, who is known in Latin mythology by the name of Venus. In Homer's Iliad appears as the daughter of Zeus and Dione. Aphrodite is the wife of Hephaestus, the lame and ugly god of fire.



Poseidon

Sea god, son of the Titan Cronos and Rea Titaness, and brother of Zeus and Hades. He had numerous other love affairs, especially with nymphs of springs and fountains, and fathered several children famed for their wildness and cruelty, among them the giant Orion and the Cyclops Polyphemus.

Dionisius  
God of wine and pleasure, was among the most popular gods. The Greeks devoted many festivals this earthly god, and in some regions became as important as Zeus. He often accompanied by a host of fantastic gods including satyrs, centaurs and nymphs. Satyrs were creatures with goat legs and upper body of a monkey or human.




Food in ancient Greece
The diet of the ancient Greeks was characterized by its frugality, reflecting difficult conditions in Greek agriculture. It is based on the "Mediterranean triad": wheat, olive oil and wine.
In the antique Greece the fork was unknown was eaten with fingers.
